An Introduction to Block Lino printing hosted by Beth Munro

This Beginners course aims to provide a friendly and relaxed space in which you can begin to uncover the mysteries of printing with block lino

We will start in the morning by preparing an original image for transferring onto a piece of lino. Once the lino is marked up you can start cutting the image and make ready for printing.

The afternoon will be spent printing your image. There will be a variety of coloured inks and papers at your disposal. You may have time to reduce the lino and print and add a second colour which will give you a two colour linocut.

By the end of the afternoon session you should have several prints to take home with you

What we will provide

All Equipment and Materials will be provided.

Tea, Coffee and morning biscuits

Non latex gloves

What to bring

An image that you would like to work from - This could be drawing, photograph, or picture from a magazine. Don’t worry if you don’t have one, we will provide some inspiration for you.

Please wear clothes that you do not mind getting dirty/ inky and/or bring an apron that you don’t mind getting messy. Please wear closed shoes.

Please bring a pack lunch or money to buy lunch in the Column Bakehouse café at Ocean studios. The café provides soup and sandwiches, tea coffee and delicious cakes.

Please bring a water bottle as printmaking is thirsty work

Please think about how you might take your tacky prints home. One method to transport tacky prints is to use an empty cardboard box that you can clothes peg the tacky images to the inside of the box.
